One of the industries most affected by Covid-19 globally is tourism. The rapid changes with moving to online environments and reducing global travel has driven tourism to embrace and accelerate the digital transformation of the industry.
Even after the pandemic, there is a huge global potential for the industry to carry on with the quest for digitalization and to offer different, sustainable ways of tourism.
Extended Reality (XR) technologies, such as virtual reality, augmented reality and other immersive environments, can be utilized when designing and developing future digital tourism.
Through XR, remote locations can be made accessible and on-site experiences can be enhanced. Museums, architecture, and historical sites present endless possibilities for adding new layers with immersive technologies.
The Digital Tourism Deephack, organized by EIT Digital and EIT Urban Mobility, together with TIM, Fifth Ingenium, Politecnico di Milano and TU Berlin, aims to enable and accelerate the future of digital tourism.
Your challenge for this deephack is to create innovative digital tourism experiences and solutions. The solutions should be based on XR, but can also leverage other technologies.
Potential solution domains include immersive tourism enabled by XR technologies, solutions for tour operators, travel agencies, attraction managers, event managers to enhance their offerings, sustainable experiences in protected areas, interactive multiplayer tourism experiences.
