The event is part of the SIKS educational program. Especially PhD-students working in the field of (interactive) information filtering, recommending, and retrieval are strongly encouraged to participate.
The experience of users during interaction with information systems (e.g., Google, Yahoo!, and Bing) is not always optimal. How to provide users with a positive information experience (IX) is still an open question. This seminar aims to address this question from several perspectives. Experimental research on cognitive aspects of task-based user-system interaction will be discussed. Paradigms for interactive information retrieval will be reviewed. Research on the design and modeling of information access systems, on interfaces and user interaction, and on the methodology of evaluating information access systems will be presented.
A better understanding of how (and why) people search for information and what factors determine a positive IX is expected to contribute the increased effectiveness of information systems. Following the seminar, Frans van der Sluis will defend his PhD-thesis, titled "When Complexity becomes Interesting: An Inquiry into the Information eXperience".
The goal of this seminar is to bring together researchers from companies and academia working on the development and evaluation of information systems, in particular retrieval, filtering, and recommending systems.
