The EIT ICT Labs Budapest Doctoral Training Centre organises an "Opportunity Recognition" course on the 16-20 March 2015, in Budapest.
The week long (5 days) course is announced for all doctoral students of the EIT ICT Labs partner universities and Doctoral Training Centres.
Goals & Content
The course is part of the I & E Business Competence program, offering doctoral candidates an innovation and entrepreneurial mindset. We do not aim to create general entrepreneurs, but rather indent to change way of thinking from research-orientation towards business reality. Thus the OR course gives only basic background knowledge about the startup world and allows students to explore opportunities related to their former research achievements. Methods are blending short lecturing, live discussions of cases and team-based hands-on work on planning tasks. Daily work will cover appr. 2 x 3 hours with a lunch break, followed by some social activities. A mix of experienced university lecturers and businessmen will lead you on the way and - as we do hope - working in an international community will give a good experience for your future career.
The intended learning outcomes of the Opportunity Recognition include the following:
- Enhanced awareness and ability to exploit the potential of their research
- Have a holistic understanding about the business development process at early stage
- Ability to explain the business functions in a new venture and in an existing company and their connections to the strategy
- Ability to gain and apply industry specific knowledge
- Know the new product/service development stages and processes
- Recognize business opportunities and exploit them
- Be able to evaluate the business opportunities in the field of high-technology
- Be able to conduct a market assessment (including market demand, customer expectations, customer value)
- Have the necessary pre-business planning skills (including IPR and business modelling)
- Show more entrepreneurial skills (presentation skills, negotiation skills, team work coordination)
- Be able to differentiate and develop the knowledge and technology transfer systems in the academic and industrial setting (including open innovation and/or respective current paradigms)
