Opening of the new IMDEA Software Institute building - Opening on July 8th

The formal opening of the new premises of IMDEA Software Institute will take place on July 8th. The Institute is the new Associate Partner of EIT ICT Labs in Spain and the lead actor of the Associate Partner Group. The other members of the Associate Partner Group are Atos, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Indra, the Technical University of Madrid (UPM), and Telefonica.

In addition to addressing the research needs of the Institute, the design of this new building and the choice of its equipment are aimed at facilitating the setup of collaboration structures with academic and industrial partners. This includes for example joint research units, such as the one recently set up with Telefonica. In particular, the new building will host the offices of the EIT ICT Labs Associate Partner Group.

The 9.500 minnovative building was designed by the well-known Lamela architecture studio, whose constructions include the Barajas airport T4 Terminal or the Real Madrid sports city.

The new building is located in the Montegancedo Campus of the Technical University of Madrid, which has been awarded the prestigious “Campus of International Excellence” label by the Spanish Ministry of Education.  The Montegancedo Campus also hosts a number of other research centers in addition to IMDEA Software: the Madrid Supercomputing and Visualization Center - CESVIMA, the Center for Domotics Research - CEDINT, the User Support and Operations Center of the European Space Agency, the Biomedical Technology Center –CTB, and the UPM Computer Science department, as well as an innovation and demonstration Center, living labs, a business incubator, and a multidisciplinary doctoral school.

The Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies in Software Development Technologies (The IMDEA Software Institute) was created in 2006 by the government of the Madrid Region as an independent, non-profit Foundation. Its mission is to perform  research of excellence and technology transfer of methods and tools that will allow the cost-effective development of software products with sophisticated functionality and high quality, i.e., which are safe, reliable, and efficient. Its distinguishing feature is the focus on approaches that are rigorous and at the same time allow building practical tools.  In order to achieve this goal, the Institute has gathered a critical mass of worldwide, top class researchers and provided them with a first-level working environment, attracting to Madrid top talent from all over the world, which now includes around 60 researchers from 15 different nationalities.

The opening will be chaired by the president of the Regional Government and include the presence of distinguished guests from academia, industry, and other institutions.

All members of EIT ICT Labs are cordially invited to the building opening ceremony.
