The ISO/EIC 24752 Universal Remote Console (URC) technology attracted a large number of projects and partners where personalized and/or accessible user interfaces play a vital role, especially in the area of ambient assisted living solutions. The technology consists of a middleware (UCH) connecting arbitrary networked appliances and services with personalized user interfaces and a resource server, which serves as a global marked place for the distribution of software resources and user interfaces that can thus be distributed via the internet. The standard addresses diverse markets where flexible and adaptable UI solutions are necessary like AAL, eHealth, transportation and home automation and control.
The OpenURC Alliance will provide an arena where different stakeholders can meet and exchange ideas and results in the area of research, development, education, certification, and standards work.
The Alliance will be incorporated on Friday, October 7th 2011 at the DFKI facilities in Saarbrücken, Germany. DFKI, a core partner of EIT ICT Labs, will welcome representatives from small, medium and large size enterprises, research centers and universities. EIT ICT Labs catalysts are a vital part to innovate in the area of standard based UI solutions.
