The future Internet is often described as the increasing amount of connected devices around us – that we are entering the networked society. So far we’ve only seen the beginning of the Internet of Things (IoT), but by the year 2020 there will be billions of devices communicating via mobile networks, WLAN and other solutions.

To highlight the possibilities and challenges connected to IoT a conference is being held at SICS, in Kista, Sweden on February 9. Keynote speakers are Mike Kuniavsky, Orangecone, USA and Bu Fanjin, CESI (China Electronics Standardization Institute), China as well several key researchers in Sweden and representatives from the industry.

February 9 is also the day the Swedish Internet of Things Centre is launched, an event led by Professor Kristina Höök at SICS in collaboration with Ericsson, Microsoft, KTH, Mobile Life@Stockholm University, Wisenet, Swedish ICT etc.

- We need a strong vision and understanding of what we should use the Internet of Things for, says Kristina Höök. So we decided to focus on the consumers – a different approach than the usual technology driven research initiatives.

The Internet of Things Day is arranged by SICS and is sponsored by VINNOVA and EIT ICT Labs.
