The Supervisory Board of EIT Digital has appointed Federico Menna as new CEO. Federico Menna succeeds Willem Jonker, who served the organisation for more than 10 years in this function. EIT Digital is one of the nine Knowledge and Innovation Communities of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.
"I want to thank the Supervisory Board and its chairman Linnar Viik for their trust and accept this appointment with great honour and humbleness," said Federico Menna in a first statement. "EIT Digital is on a clear trajectory to strengthen its position as Europe’s largest European ecosystem for digital innovation, entrepreneurship, and skills development. Our goal is to reinforce and grow our pan-European partnership of Corporates, Universities, SMEs and RTOs, expand our footprint through the establishment of new regional offices, support the European Year of Skills as well as the broader EU skills agenda with our outstanding entrepreneurial education programmes, and continue to bring cutting edge digital innovation to the market through our incubation, open innovation and venture creation programmes. Furthermore, we are preparing European tech scaleups to lift off and successfully grow in Europe and beyond, contributing to the realization of a strong Digital Single Market. I look forward to leading our organisation on this path in close cooperation with the EIT Digital Management."
Preceding his appointment, Federico Menna served for the past five months as interim CEO of EIT Digital, in addition to his role as Chief Operations and Finance Officer.
Commenting on the appointment of Federico Menna, Supervisory Board Chairman Linnar Viik said that "Federico has successfully served the organisation for many years and in different roles. He brings ample experience with EIT Digital as well as our integrated role in the EIT family with him and has demonstrated a clear vision for the sustainable future of our organisation."
Federico joined the organisation in 2015 as Innovation Analyst and over the years held multiple roles, including Head of Staff and Operations and Chief Operations and Finance Officer. A telecommunications engineer by education, prior to joining EIT Digital, Federico worked for several years for Vodafone Group where he was in charge of the introduction of new mobile technologies in the market.
"EIT Digital runs Europe’s largest open innovation ecosystem, helped more than 300 startups to get off the ground, more than 250 scaleups to raise investment and grow, and prepare the foundations for the next generation of startups by shaping and nurturing talent through our master school programme and professional education," said Menna. "It is my goal to further expand our strong ecosystem across Europe to ensure that many more partners will benefit from EIT Digital’s impact on digital innovation, entrepreneurship and talent."
