First-wave Regional Innovation Valleys announced: EIT Digital to lead UNITE to improve healthcare through deep tech digital innovation

EIT Digital will lead UNITE, a major pan-European programme focused on digital health selected as part of the Regional Innovation Valleys initiative which is a key action under the New European Innovation Agenda.

Through UNITE, EIT Digital brings together an outstanding consortium of national and regional innovation authorities from across Europe as newly accredited Regional Innovation Valleys, focused on transforming healthcare through digital deep tech innovation.

Acting beside EIT Digital, with a shared vision of a borderless European digital health ecosystem, the UNITE consortium partners are Region Sjaelland in Denmark, Thüringer Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitale Gesellschaft in Germany, the Region of Central Macedonia in Greece, Regione Lombardia in Italy, Malopolska Voivodeship in Poland, Unitatea Executiva Pentru Finantarea Invatamantului Superior, a Cercetarii, Dezvoltarii si Inovarii (UEFISCDI) in Romania, the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration in Ukraine, and Scottish Enterprise in the United Kingdom.

In line with the spirit and objectives of the Regional Innovation Valleys initiative, these partners, bring together diverse and complementary geographical, economic, cultural, and digital innovation backgrounds.

In addition to bringing these pre-eminent innovation actors into lockstep to solve the most pressing healthcare challenges, UNITE will activate open calls to cascade funding to highly innovative European companies to support and accelerate the delivery of the very best deep tech digital solutions across Europe, and to bring new interregional supply chains into being for the benefit of the suppliers and consumers of next generation products and services.

Through focus on deep tech innovations which secure equal health for entire populations, more personalised and human-centric remote care, advanced health data spaces, and digital innovations which solve the healthcare workforce crisis, UNITE will improve quality of life and health outcomes for European citizens.

Launching on September 1, 2024, with an initial duration of four years, UNITE will rapidly gather additional innovators as it unfolds and lay down enduring transformation within the European digital health sector.
