Bulgarian scaleup Checkpoint Cardio, which joined the EIT Digital Accelerator in November 2017 and is supported by the EIT Digital's Access to Market teams, has secured full joint development and implementation contract from a leading university hospital consortium.

Founded in 2014, Checkpoint Cardio has developed patented wearables that allow constant streaming of cardiac and other significant biometric data, providing a whole system for online diagnostics, prevention and emergency reaction for cardiovascular diseases. It is one of the most avant-garde telemedicine systems for the transmission and monitoring of reliable medical data in real time.

Checkpoint Cardio's first deliverables in the 475.000€ deal were all accepted on May 29th. The company is now over the initial kickoff funding set by the contractor. This development and implementation budget will allow CheckPoint Cardio to enhance its key system through the measurement of additional health parameters. The contract will lead to a further development of the CheckpointCardio technology into wearables to be applied in many different hospital departments and use cases.

Checkpoint Cardio's telemonitoring and health prevention solution raised significant attention with European decision makers : They are invited to speak about "The patient in the system: Innovating for a more comprehensive health care" in the Science/Business Conference "Innovative Europe? Time for a new EU innovation strategy" on June 5th in Brussels. Furthermore, they are addressing "Digital solutions for sustainable healthcare" in the event "The digital transformation of healthcare - challenges and opportunities ", chaired by Andrey Kovatchev, Vice-Chair of the EPP Group, in the European Parliament on June 18th in Brussels.

Boris Dimitrov, CEO and co-founder of Checkpoint Cardio said about EIT Digital Accelerator: " We are grateful for EIT Digital Accelerator teams supporting us in the development of this deal and for the series of introductions already made this year. Without EIT Digital Accelerator and personal engagement of the access to market and access to finance teams, Checkpoint Cardio would never have been, where we are now." Wolfgang Kniejski, EIT Digital Accelrator's Access-to-Market Team Leader added : "For us it is an exciting and highly motivating experience to take such an innovative upscaling company to international markets".
