Innovation is all about entrepreneurial talent! Congratulations to the EIT Digital Doctoral School graduates 2019 and good luck on your journey! Stay inspired by innovation while creating a Strong Digital Europe.

User Experience (UX) for children, wearables for climbing, assisting the elderly with mobility constraints, blockchain for smart grids, reminiscence-based tools, advances in Gaussian processes, smart and secure network visualisation, and machine learning – all of these are thesis subjects of EIT Digital Industrial Doctoral School 2019 graduates!

The 15 PhD graduates, who received their diplomas at the graduation ceremony on 2 October 2019 in Helsinki, defended their thesis at six different EIT Digital partner universities: Aalto University (Finland), ELTE: Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary), Institute Mines-Télécom (France), Sorbonne University (France), Télécom ParisTech (France) and University of Trento (Italy).

EIT Digital’s Industrial Doctoral School educates a new generation of tomorrow’s leaders in digital technologies, equipping them with a combination of strong research and business skills.

“This innovative approach provides our graduates with deep expertise in key digital areas and a strong background in Innovation and Entrepreneurship,” said Dr David Oliva Uribe, Head of the EIT Digital Industrial Doctoral School in his opening remarks.

The unique experience is created by combining research, innovation, entrepreneurship, industry involvement and pan-European mobility.

“The value of the skills acquired through EIT Digital’s T-shaped educational programme, combining engineering, innovation and entrepreneurship, is 100 per cent employability, with 80 per cent finding jobs in industry,” emphasised Roberto Prieto, EIT Digital’s Chief Education Officer.

Three of the Doctoral graduates have already founded their own enterprise. EIT Digital CEO Willem Jonker gave some clear advice to the new PhDs:

“Your PhD is like a driving licence: don’t be under the impression that you can already drive but start driving anyway! As the drivers of innovation, you understand the big changes and the big challenges!”

Bon voyage, new EIT Digital PhDs!
