The University Twente will also be offering the EIT Digital Masters Data Science starting from 1 September 2020. This Dutch university of Technology is the twelfth university to offer this double degreed Master programme of EIT Digital Master School.

The EIT Digital Master School is a European network of top technical universities that offers nine technical master’s programmes and a business minor in innovation and entrepreneurship since 2012. Students learn how to translate technological acumen into business success. Upon successful completion of their master’s, students receive two diplomas: one from each university they attended plus a certificate of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). In between the two years of their master’s, students attend a two-week Summer School where they convert real-life business cases into business solutions.

Within the masters, in total 17 universities participate in one or more programmes in either the first or second year of the master programme. The UTwente participates for example in the programmes Cyber Security and Human Computer Interaction Design. Students who want to follow the masters Data Science in the new academic year can thus now also apply to study this programme at the University of Twente.

Jan Schut, coordinator of the EIT Digital Master School on behalf of the UT, says that the EIT Digital Masters are very interesting for students. "The courses are very attractive for ambitious students; you study at two different universities, you follow courses in innovation and entrepreneurship, and you meet on regular basis with all other master students within the network to build up a large, international network."

Schut, therefore, sees the number of students for the EIT Digital Master School programmes at his university growing. “Every year more master students choose to do an EIT Digital Masters at the UT. We started in 2013 with seven students, this year we had 40.”

Eleven other universities also offer the Data Science programme. These are the Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Technical University of Madrid (Spain), University Côte d’ Azur (France), Politecnico di Milano (Italy), University Paris-Sud (France),

Aalto University (Finland), Eötvös Lorànd University (Hungary), University of Rennes 1 (France), Technical University of Berlin (Germany), University of Trento (Italy).

The programme Data Science exists since  2015 and is one of the most popular programmes within the EIT Digital Master School offer. At the recently held  Graduation Day, 61 international students graduated as data scientist.

Roberto Prieto, chief education officer of ETI Digital: “We are happy that UTwente also has chosen to work with us in the Data Science programme. Data scientist are very wanted on the labour market and we want to meet the need of the digital economy. UTwente expansion of its EIT Digital Programme offering helps with that. We see a growing number of universities who want to be part of our network, and we are very proud to have established already the network we have built so fare. We strongly believe that the future of higher education in Europe, should be  within a network of universities.”
